Building Information Modeling in Construction Industry of Pakistan: Merits, Demerits and Barriers

Abstract In recent years, Building Information Modelling (BIM) is much popularized as construction design approach. It very useful in providing the necessary information for any project before it built. BIM implementation has demonstrated several merits; however practitioners have also reported some demerits and barriers which restrict adoption of industry. This study assessed merits, barrier to industry Pakistan. Data collected form 42 involved handling based projects was analyzed statistically with average index method. The results showed that significant merits perceived by are helps improving quality Work; controlling time cost project; achieving client satisfaction. At same time, respondents mentioned adds work designer Interoperability demerits. Assessment regarding top 3 common are: lack competent staff operate software; unawareness technology; not ready distort normal operational structure.
